Tips on How to Choose a Real Estate Brokerage

Posted: April 26, 2018 by Taryn Celia Opie

Whether you’re a client looking to buy, sell or become a realtor, you must choose a brokerage to work with/for. When you’re looking for a brokerage to work for, I suggest interviewing a few as each firm operates different. I am going to tell you my personal experience in choosing a brokerage to hang my license.

I was hired as an assistant for two agents at Coldwell Banker. While I loved my position and working under two of the top agents in Elko, I knew I wanted more. I decided to get my real estate license. This opened a choice for me- stay with Coldwell Banker or go to another local brokerage. After weighing my options, I proudly asked my broker if I could hang my license at Coldwell Banker A/QTR.

This decision was not based on the fact that I had become friends with most everyone in the firm or that I already had my desk set up. I knew I needed to choose wisely as I wanted to be at one place for my entire career so I needed to start with the best.

After asking around and subtly “interviewing” different brokerages, I came to the conclusion that the training I was getting at Coldwell Banker was truly beneficial, not only to me, but also to my future clientele.

Coldwell Banker A/QTR has classes given bi-weekly by our broker-manager. We also are also encouraged to attend meetings held once a month directed by Elko County’s number 1 agent, Vicky Blair, and Kathy Polkinghorne, another top producing agent. It is a constant learning environment at Coldwell Banker. Being a new agent is intimidating as you’re working with other agents who have been doing this 10,15,20 years; but I am confident in anything I do because I have been TRAINED by the best. If I ever have a question about anything, I know I can pick up the phone or walk into a colleagues office and ask them their opinion. Although we are competitors, we are also a big, loving team

What does this have to do with you, as a client? Well, why wouldn’t you choose an agent who is constantly bettering themselves and their business; who attend trainings AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK?!  Real estate changes all the time and if your agent isn’t keeping up on the day to day changes, they are not representing you to the fullest.

Agents who have been in the business for 15 years are still attending these classes because they want what is best for YOU and the only way to do that is making sure they are staying sharp with their education and skills.

So if you’re looking for an agent who has an abundance of resources and knowledge is important, make sure you chose a Coldwell Banker A/QTR agent.
